Bay leaves are also commonly known as bay laurel or laurel leaves. They are the aromatic leaves of the Laurus nobilis tree, native to the Mediterranean region. In some contexts, they may also be referred to as sweet bay or simply bay. In Indian cuisine, the term "Tejpatta" or "Indian bay leaf" is used, but this refers to leaves from the Cinnamomum species, not Laurus nobilis
